Quick Answer
The best OneDrive migration tool for your project depends on three things: whether you need delta passes before cutover, what must happen to sharing links, and how many versions per file you need to keep. Based on each vendor’s documentation:
- Apps4.Pro Migration Manager fits tenant-to-tenant moves that need up to 200 versions per file, unique permissions, delta passes, and OneDrive in the same tool as mail, Teams, and SharePoint, priced per installation rather than per user.
- ShareGate Migrate fits admins who already use it for SharePoint and want OneDrive, versions, permissions, and incremental copies on an annual plan.
- AvePoint Fly and Quest On Demand Migration fit large enterprise programs that want OneDrive inside a broader SaaS platform. Quest can convert sharing links to direct permissions.
- BitTitan MigrationWiz fits per-user projects: its $17.50 User Migration Bundle covers OneDrive with mailbox and archive, with up to 25 versions per file.
- Cloudiway and CloudFuze document sharing link and external sharing migration.
- Kernel and SysTools fit small, budget-limited desktop migrations.
- Microsoft’s native cross-tenant OneDrive migration moves a whole OneDrive in one pass with redirects, but it has no delta passes and requires a per-user add-on license.
.
Key Takeaways
- Microsoft’s cross-tenant OneDrive migration is a one-time move: “Incremental and delta migration passes cannot be performed.” It supports up to 5 TB and 1 million items per OneDrive and needs the Cross Tenant User Data Migration add-on (Microsoft Learn).
- Sharing links are the biggest difference between tools. Apps4.Pro and BitTitan migrate direct permissions but not sharing links (Apps4.Pro guide, BitTitan FAQ). Cloudiway and CloudFuze list sharing links and external sharing (Cloudiway guide), and Quest can turn shared links into direct permissions (Quest ODM).
- Version depth varies: Apps4.Pro migrates up to 200 versions per file, BitTitan up to 25 (default 3), and Quest and Kernel let you choose recent or all versions.
- Unlicensed OneDrive accounts now cost money. From July 1, 2026, Microsoft makes unlicensed accounts read-only at day 60, archives them at day 93, and can delete them after 365 unpaid days. Archived storage costs $0.05/GB per month and reactivation $0.60/GB (Microsoft Learn).
- Most tools need the target OneDrive to exist first. BitTitan requires destination OneDrives to be provisioned, while Microsoft’s native move requires that they do not exist yet.
- Pricing units differ: Apps4.Pro is $5,995 per installation, ShareGate starts at $5,995 per year, BitTitan is $17.50 per user, Kernel is $199 for 10 users, and Cloudiway sells bundles from $580.
What a OneDrive Migration Tool Has to Handle
Copying files is the easy part. Every tool in this comparison is judged on the five parts of a OneDrive migration that most often cause problems after cutover.
1. Permissions and sharing links. Direct permissions can be remapped to target users. Sharing links (anyone, organization, and specific-people links) are tenant-specific URLs, so each tool either drops them, recreates them, converts them to direct permissions, or relies on redirects.
2. Version history. Some tools copy only the latest version by default. Legal, finance, and engineering teams often need more, and version depth affects migration speed.
3. Metadata. Created and modified dates and authors should survive, or files look new to everyone on day one.
4. Delta passes and cutover. Most projects copy the bulk of data early, then run delta passes to pick up changes just before users switch. A one-time move needs a tighter cutover window.
5. Microsoft limits. File paths over 400 characters, very large files, invalid characters, OneNote notebooks, and OneDrive shortcuts all need handling, and each tool treats them differently.
How We Compared These Tools
We evaluated all 10 options against the same eight criteria:
- Files, folders, and metadata (created and modified dates, authors)
- Version history depth
- Direct permissions and sharing links, including external sharing
- Target OneDrive provisioning
- Delta and incremental passes
- File size, path, and item limits
- Deployment model and documented limitations
- Pricing model and published price
What this review is: a comparison built from documentation. Sources, in priority order, were vendor documentation and help centers, vendor pricing pages, and Microsoft Learn. We report limitations only when the vendor or Microsoft documents them.
What this review is not: a lab benchmark. We did not run throughput tests and report no speed numbers of our own.
All prices and capabilities were checked in September 2026 and should be confirmed with the vendor before purchase.

1. Apps4.Pro Migration Manager: Best Overall for Full OneDrive Tenant-to-Tenant Migration
Apps4.Pro Migration Manager migrates OneDrive files, folders, up to 200 versions per file, unique permissions, and metadata between tenants, in the same platform that migrates mailboxes, Teams, SharePoint, and Planner.
Apps4.Pro Migration Manager is built by JiJi Technologies. It uses delegated Microsoft Graph permissions with admin consent and supports MFA and modern authentication.
OneDrive migration capabilities
Per the Apps4.Pro OneDrive migration guide and OneDrive scope overview:
- Migrates all files and the full folder hierarchy, including nested and empty folders, and Whiteboard files.
- Migrates a configurable number of versions, up to the 200 latest versions per file.
- Migrates file and folder unique permissions when user and group mapping is configured.
- Preserves created and modified metadata for items newly created in the target.
- Can suppress email notifications during migration.
- Incremental migration of newly added items works by re-running completed tasks, without creating duplicates.
- A OneDrive Migration Summary report compares folder, file, and migrated item counts.
Documented limitations
- Sharing links (anyone, organization, and specific-people links) are not migrated.
- Permissions and metadata are not updated for files or folders that already exist in the target, so get mapping right on the first pass.
- Versions of files larger than 700 MB are not transferred, and versions beyond the latest 200 are discarded.
- Each target user needs an active OneDrive before migration, and the migration account needs secondary site collection admin access to scoped OneDrives.
Pricing
- $5,995 per single-machine installation, or $8,995 for up to five installations, described on the pricing page as a one-time purchase.
- The license covers all supported workloads with no data-volume limit (Apps4.Pro licensing).
- A 15-day free trial is available.
Best fit: M&A and consolidation projects with many users, deep version history, and other workloads moving at the same time.
Not a fit: projects where existing sharing links must keep working without users re-sharing.
2. ShareGate Migrate: Best for Admins Already Using ShareGate for SharePoint
ShareGate Migrate copies OneDrive files, folders, version history, permissions, and metadata between tenants from a Windows desktop app, with incremental copies before cutover.
OneDrive migration capabilities
Per ShareGate’s OneDrive migration page and tenant-to-tenant guide:
- Migrates files and folders, version history, security (permissions), and metadata.
- Incremental migration runs a follow-up pass before cutover to pick up changes without recopying everything.
- Bulk migrations are driven by CSV mapping files and PowerShell, and can be scheduled off-hours.
- States unlimited data, with no caps or extra fees.
Documented limitations
- Shortcuts to My files are not supported and are copied as standard files (ShareGate help).
- URLs inside documents are not corrected to point to the new location (ShareGate help).
- ShareGate’s public pages do not state how sharing links are handled, so confirm this in a pilot.
- Licensed per machine activation, and each plan has a tenant-size limit.
Pricing
- Essentials $5,995 per year (up to 250 employees, 1 activation), Pro $9,995 (up to 1,000 employees, 5 activations), Enterprise from $17,995 (1,000+ employees). OneDrive is included in all plans (ShareGate pricing).
Best fit: IT teams that already run SharePoint migrations in ShareGate and want OneDrive on the same license.
Not a fit: large tenants that would move to a higher plan tier just for a one-time OneDrive project.
3. AvePoint Fly: Best for Enterprise Programs That Need Discovery and Sensitivity Labels
AvePoint Fly moves OneDrive, SharePoint, Exchange, Teams, and Groups across tenants as SaaS or self-hosted, preserving permissions, versions, metadata, and sensitivity labels.
OneDrive migration capabilities
Per AvePoint’s product page and product brochure:
- Preserves permissions, metadata, version histories, and sensitivity labels with advanced mapping.
- Free pre-migration discovery and scanning to size OneDrive data before you buy.
- Supports incremental migration so both environments stay online.
- Migrations can be scheduled or run in real time, and failed or stopped jobs can be resumed or rerun.
- Reports migrated data volumes and item counts, and supports reusable migration policies across projects.
Limitations
- AvePoint’s public pages do not state version limits or how sharing links are handled.
- Pricing is quote-based, and the platform is more than a small OneDrive-only project typically needs.
Pricing
- Fly SaaS is priced per user per year with unlimited data (UK G-Cloud listing), with tailored quotes.
Best fit: large enterprises that want discovery, sensitivity label migration, and every workload on one subscription.
Not a fit: a small, fixed-budget OneDrive-only move.
4. Quest On Demand Migration: Best for Enterprise M&A With Flexible Version and Sharing Options
Quest On Demand Migration (ODM) is a SaaS platform that migrates OneDrive with a choice of version depth, user and sharing permissions including guests, and delta passes, alongside Exchange, Teams, and Active Directory.
OneDrive migration capabilities
Per Quest’s OneDrive migration page:
- Migrates just the latest version, a subset of versions, or all versions.
- Preserves user and sharing permissions for internal users, internal groups, and guest users, and can set shared permissions as direct file permissions.
- Preserves file and folder structure and key metadata.
- Target OneDrives can be pre-provisioned with PowerShell or provisioned as part of the migration task.
- Delta passes sync only what changed, and tasks can be filtered by folder, type, date, or size and scheduled.
Limitations
- Quest advises against copying files to the target before migration, because source versions may overwrite target changes (Quest KB).
- There is no public price list.
Pricing
- Quote-based. Licenses are consumed by tier (T3, T5, T7).
Best fit: large M&A programs that need coexistence, guest permissions, and control over version depth.
Not a fit: teams wanting transparent self-service pricing.
5. BitTitan MigrationWiz: Best for Per-User Bundles With Mailbox Migration
BitTitan MigrationWiz migrates OneDrive between tenants as part of its $17.50 per-user User Migration Bundle, which also covers mailboxes, archives, and Teams private chat.
OneDrive migration capabilities
Per BitTitan’s OneDrive versions and metadata guide and migrated items list:
- Migrates folders, shared folders, permissions, and files, with original author, editor, created and modified time metadata.
- Versions and metadata migration copies 3 versions by default and up to 25 per pass.
- Supports metadata types such as single line of text, choice, and person or group.
- Delta passes update only files with new versions.
Documented limitations
- Only direct-access permissions migrate. Sharing links (“links giving access”) are not migrated, and permissions on items with symbols in their names cannot be transferred.
- The maximum single file size is 60 GB, and versions of OneNote files are not supported.
- Destination OneDrives must be provisioned before migration.
- Managed metadata and lookup fields are not supported, and OneDrive’s 400-character path limit applies.
Pricing
- User Migration Bundle: $17.50 per user, covering mailbox, archives, OneDrive or Google Drive, and Teams private chat, with unlimited data (BitTitan pricing).
- Tenant Migration Bundle: $57 per user, adding Teams or shared document migration.
Best fit: per-user tenant migrations where mail and OneDrive move together and 25 versions are enough.
Not a fit: projects that need deep version history or working sharing links.
6. Cloudiway: Best for MSPs That Need Sharing Links and Link Rewriting
Cloudiway is a SaaS platform that migrates OneDrive between tenants, including sharing permissions, sharing links, external sharing, and rewriting of internal links inside documents.
OneDrive migration capabilities
Per the Cloudiway OneDrive to OneDrive guide:
- Migrates files, folders, folder structure, sharing permissions, sharing links, and external sharing.
- Preserves original created and modified dates.
- Rewrites internal links inside documents to point to the new location.
- Delta passes sync only files changed after the initial migration, so daily syncs before cutover stay small.
Documented limitations
- Files over 250 GB cannot be transferred (Microsoft API limit).
- Paths over 400 characters are truncated, and files with invalid characters are renamed.
- OneNote notebooks need separate handling, and OneDrive shortcuts are not migrated.
Pricing
- Premium bundle (mail and drive): $590 for 35 licenses. Tenant Migration bundle (all workloads): $580 for 20 licenses. All bundles include unlimited delta passes, and licenses never expire (Cloudiway pricing).
Best fit: MSPs and projects where shared files and in-document links must keep working.
Not a fit: projects that need documented version history migration.
7. CloudFuze: Best for Managed Moves With External Shares
CloudFuze combines a SaaS migration engine with a managed service and documents migration of OneDrive permissions, external sharing links, versions, and timestamps.
OneDrive migration capabilities
Per CloudFuze’s OneDrive to OneDrive page:
- Preserves external sharing links and maps permissions and ownership.
- Retains metadata, version history, and timestamps.
- Delta syncs capture ongoing changes for a zero-downtime cutover.
- Provides audit and compliance reports after migration.
Limitations
- CloudFuze’s public pages describe capabilities rather than detailed limits or not-migrated lists, so request a scope document during the proof of concept.
- No public pricing.
Pricing
- Quote-based.
Best fit: enterprises that want engineers to run the move and need external shares preserved.
Not a fit: buyers who need a public price list or documented limits.
8. Kernel OneDrive Migration: Best Budget Desktop Tool
Kernel OneDrive Migration is a Windows desktop tool that migrates OneDrive data, permissions, and versions between tenants, licensed in packs of users.
OneDrive migration capabilities
- Migrates all versions or only recent versions.
- Migrates OneDrive permissions with data while keeping the folder hierarchy, properties, and metadata.
- Incremental export moves only new source data.
- Folder, item type, and version filters allow selective migration.
Limitations
- Kernel’s page does not publish a not-migrated list or state how sharing links are handled.
- It is a desktop app, so throughput depends on your own machine. The free trial is limited to 25 documents from one user.
Pricing
- $199 for 10 users (listed down from $299), with larger packs available; licenses include backup and migration (Kernel pricing).
Best fit: small and mid-size projects on a tight budget that still need version and permission migration.
Not a fit: large programs that need SaaS scale or a managed service.
9. SysTools OneDrive Migrator: Best for Small, Simple Copies
SysTools OneDrive Migrator is a Windows desktop tool that moves OneDrive files and documents to another OneDrive account, with optional permission migration.
OneDrive migration capabilities
- Migrates files, documents, photos, audio, video, and PDFs, keeping folder hierarchy and shared items.
- Migrates document permissions when selected, and maintains document metadata.
- Supports delta migration by re-running, and a date filter for selective migration.
Limitations
- Each source-to-destination user pairing consumes one license, with a minimum of 5 users.
- The page does not document version history migration, sharing links, or file size limits. The demo is limited to 2 user accounts.
Pricing
- The product page shows “Buy Now @ $35” with a 5-user minimum license. Confirm the total with SysTools.
Best fit: a few users with simple file copies.
Not a fit: projects that need documented version history or sharing link handling.
10. Microsoft Cross-Tenant OneDrive Migration: Native, One-Time Moves
Microsoft’s cross-tenant OneDrive migration moves whole OneDrive accounts between tenants with PowerShell and leaves redirects behind, but it is a one-time move with no delta passes.
What Microsoft’s tools cover
- Cross-tenant OneDrive migration moves users’ OneDrive accounts to the target tenant. A redirect is placed at the original location, shared links redirect automatically, and OneDrive is read-only for only minutes during the move (Microsoft Learn).
- Migration Orchestrator (preview) coordinates user-level data, including OneDrive, mailboxes, and Teams chats, as one user migration (Microsoft Learn).
Documented limitations
- One-time move: incremental and delta passes cannot be performed.
- Limits of 5 TB and 1 million items (files, versions, folders, list entries) per OneDrive, and a 400-character path limit.
- Target users must be precreated and licensed, and their OneDrives must not already exist in the target.
- The source tenant cannot use Microsoft Purview Customer Key, source OneDrives must be read/write, and GCC, GCC High, and DoD are not supported.
Pricing
- Requires the Cross Tenant User Data Migration add-on for Enterprise Agreement customers: a one-time fee per user, assigned on the source or target user. No list price is published on the documentation page.
Best fit: Enterprise Agreement customers who want a Microsoft-native, whole-OneDrive move with redirects and can cut over in one pass.
Not a fit: projects that need delta passes, selective migration, or merging into OneDrives that already exist.
Unique Insight: What Happens to Sharing Links
Users notice broken sharing more than anything else after a OneDrive migration. Before buying, ask exactly what each tool does with each type of link.
Tool | Sharing link behavior |
|---|---|
Apps4.Pro | Direct (unique) permissions migrate; anyone, organization, and specific-people links do not |
BitTitan | Direct-access permissions migrate; “links giving access” do not |
Quest ODM | Sharing permissions preserved, with an option to convert shared links to direct permissions |
Cloudiway | Sharing links and external sharing migrated; internal links inside documents rewritten |
CloudFuze | External sharing links preserved, with permission and ownership mapping |
Microsoft native | Shared links redirect to the new location until the source tenant is deprovisioned |
Unique Insight: Unlicensed OneDrive Accounts Put a Clock on Your Project
Microsoft now charges for, and eventually deletes, OneDrive accounts that no longer have a license. This matters when departing or source-tenant users are unlicensed before their data is migrated (Microsoft Learn).

Worked example: 1,000 users on BitTitan’s User Migration Bundle cost $17,500, which also covers their mailboxes. ShareGate Pro is $9,995 per year for tenants up to 1,000 employees, and a single Apps4.Pro installation is $5,995 regardless of user count. At 50 users, BitTitan costs $875. Compare the whole user migration, not just the OneDrive line.
How to Choose a OneDrive Migration Tool: A 6-Step Checklist
- Check how sharing links are handled. Confirm whether the migration tool migrates or recreates sharing links, converts them to direct permissions, or requires users to re-share files.
- Set your version depth. Agree with legal and records teams how many versions per file must move, and check each tool’s cap.
- Plan provisioning and mapping. Confirm whether target OneDrives must exist first, and map every user and group before the first pass.
- Plan delta passes and cutover. If you need a weekend cutover, rule out one-time moves.
- Scan for Microsoft limits. Look for long paths, very large files, OneNote notebooks, and shortcuts before you start.
- Keep source licenses until you are done, then pilot your largest OneDrives and compare item counts in the vendor’s report.
